Planes Moving & Storage Partners With Local School To Promote Social Studies Education

INDIANAPOLIS—As students are returning to school for the 2011–12 school year, they will soon begin a cross-country odyssey through a unique geography and history program offered by United Van Lines. Courtesy of Planes Moving & Storage, an agent for United Van Lines, approximately 80 elementary students at Christ the King will be participating in Discover America®—a program which enables children nationwide to ‘tour’ and study the geography and history of various U.S. cities via “Driver Dave,” a fictitious United van operator.

On October 10, Planes Moving & Storage will send Driver Dave to explain the Discovery America® program, discuss his job responsibilities, and conduct a tour of his vehicle.

“Our driver is looking forward to meeting the kids and teachers,” says James O’Keefe, General Manager of Planes Moving & Storage, Indianapolis. “The kids are really going to enjoy his presentation, as well as touring his truck.”

Driver Dave’s route will ‘transport’ Christ the King students to 10 cities across the United States, and each month students will receive letters from Driver Dave along with picture books, postcards and souvenirs, highlighting the significant landmarks and sites in each city. Students will participate in activities surrounding this material and will calculate Driver Dave’s mileage on a U.S. map.

Students will also be able to keep track of Driver Dave’s side trips by logging on to
